Eurovision 2024: Cyprus unveils the title of Silia Kapsis’ song

todayMarch 5, 2024

Background

As the Eurovision season gears up, Cyprus has unveiled the title of their upcoming entry for this year’s contest. Set to be performed by the talented 17-year-old Australian-born rising star, Silia Kapsis, the song is titled “Liar.”

Vasiliki, known as Silia, was born in Sydney to Cypriot singer Giorgos Kapsis and Greek lawyer and former dancer Despina “Rebecca” Saivanidis from Thessaloniki.

Silia Kapsis was internally selected by CyBC to represent Cyprus at Eurovision this year. Watch the official music video right here!

The song was written by Dimitris Kontopoulos and Elke Tiel, with Silia Kapsis previously discussing the meaning of “Liar”. The meaning of the song is also said to be depicted in the music video, which is directed by Kostas Karydas and filmed in Cyprus, at the casino, City of Dreams Mediterranean, and at the Limassol Marina.

“Liar,” described as an up-tempo dance-pop banger, addresses themes of trust, deception, self-worth, and truth in today’s world of misinformation.

Silia, a multi-talented singer, dancer, and actress, presents a strong Eurovision entrant, raising hopes for Cyprus. The CyBC hierarchy believes she is the perfect choice for this year’s contest.

Choreographers Kelly Sweeney and Guy Groove will craft the lively choreography. Their involvement showcases Cyprus’ ambition to impress at the competition.

Silia recently flew to Los Angeles for rehearsals and returned to Cyprus to shoot the music video for “Liar,” directed by Kostas Karydas at the City of Dreams Mediterranean hotel in Limassol. She will continue rehearsals in Athens with vocal coach Victoria Halkiti.

GreekBeat Radio are loving the track ‘Liar’ and are rooting for Silia Kapsis and #Cyprus in the competition.

Cyprus competes in Eurovision Semi-Final 1 on Tuesday, May 9th, at 8 pm GMT. The Top 10 acts from each semi-final will advance to the Final on Saturday, May 14th, at the #Malmö Arena in Sweden.

Don’t miss out on our blog for the latest updates as we eagerly await the reveal of Marina Satti’s song for #Greece on March 7th!
